For employment terminations with interruptions

Insurance by Special Agreement

The employment relationship is terminated and this leads to an interruption of employment without continued pay, the employee may extend non-occupational accident insurance with insurance by special agreement.

The extension of insurance protection for a maximum of six months must be guaranteed in the event of a change of employment with an interruption between the positions as well as during an unpaid leave.
Insurance by special agreement must always be concluded with the company with which the employee previously had obligatory insurance for non-occupational accidents.
  • What is insurance by special agreement?
With insurance by special agreement, the insurance for non-occupational accidents can be extended beyond the end of the contract for a maximum of six months.

The insurance against non-occupational accidents ends on the 31st day after the day on which entitlement to at least half of one’s wages (or the equivalent of this amount) ends.
  • Who can take out insurance by special agreement?
Any employee who has compulsory insurance for non-occupational accidents in accordance with the UVG/LAA/LAINF can take out insurance by special agreement. This means all employees who work at least eight hours per week for the same employer.
  • When does the insurance by special agreement begin and end?
The insurance by special agreement begins on the day that follows the end of the insurance or non-occupational accidents. The insurance by special agreement is valid for the stipulated insurance duration, but for no longer than six months. It ends early when taking up employment of at least eight hours a week. The insurance by special agreement may be extended by renewing the payment of premiums before the insurance expires. Additional payment slips may be obtained at CONCORDIA. Conclusion of the agreement must always be done at that company where the previously existing obligatory insurance for non-occupational accidents existed.
