Life with a baby brings many changes and new responsibilities. You should already register your baby with your health insurer during the pregnancy. Find out more about CONCORDIA’s products and services.

Short and simple
Parents register their baby with their health insurance before the birth.
This makes sure that the baby is insured from the very beginning.
Then all the baby needs is a simple health check.
There are discounts for families.
Health care insurance (OKP, basic insurance) is mandatory in Switzerland – including for babies. After the birth, you have three months’ time to register your newborn baby with a health insurer. The insurance cover then applies retroactively from the date of the birth.
We recommend that you already register your baby before the birth. At CONCORDIA, all that is required for this is a simple risk assessment and you will benefit from guaranteed cover for certain supplementary insurance policies. Then you can concentrate entirely on your child and on day-to-day family life once your baby has arrived.

FAQs on pre-birth registration
-
What happens if I only register my baby after the birth?
You have to register your baby within three months after the birth. The insurance cover then applies retroactively from the date of the birth. If you only register your baby for health insurance after the birth, a normal health check will be conducted for all supplementary insurance policies. If your baby suffers from an illness or a birth defect, it is possible that he or she will not be accepted for a supplementary insurance policy, or only with restrictions.
We therefore recommend that you register your baby before the birth, as in this case, the health check is waived for certain supplementary insurance policies.
-
Who pays in the event of complications during the birth?
If complications occur during the birth and your baby requires medical treatment in a hospital, the costs will be covered by the basic health insurance of your newborn. In this scenario, you have to pay the statutory cost contribution (deductible) for the child.
Start thinking early on about how comprehensively you are going to insure your baby. Make an appointment: our CONCORDIA advisor will be happy to show you the various options and advantages of your insurance cover.
