Frequently asked questions
What is supplementary insurance?Supplementary insurance enables you to optimise the cover provided by your basic insurance according to your personal needs. This could include, for example, choosing which comfort class of hospital room you would like to stay in and insuring yourself for unexpected dental treatment. Unlike basic insurance, insurance companies can turn down applications for supplementary insurance under the Swiss Federal Law on Insurance Contracts (VVG/LCA).
When and how can I take out and cancel a supplementary insurance policy?Supplementary insurance policies can be taken out from the first of the following month. They can be cancelled with effect from the end of the year, subject to a notice period of 90 days. This means that the notice of cancel-lation must be submitted by the final working day in September at the latest. To take out a policy or amend your existing policy, please contact your CONCORDIA agency for a personal consultation.
What does VVG/LCA mean? The German, French and Italian abbreviations VVG and LCA designate the Swiss Federal Law on Insurance Con-tracts. For health insurance companies, the VVG/LCA regulates supplementary insurance policies and daily sick-ness allowance insurance.
Is a health declaration required to take out a supplementary insurance policy?Yes. Unlike basic insurance, you always have to submit an application with a health declaration to take out a new policy under the VVG/LCA or obtain a higher level of cover. This means that your application will be as-sessed and restrictions (cover exclusions) may be imposed for certain conditions, or your application may be rejected entirely.
